I look back at my past and experience, it doesn’t define who I am but it certainly does inform what kind of person I want to be.
At a young age, I traveled back and forth between countries before I settled in GTA, Ontario. Coming from a first-generation settler family, I experienced a considerable amount of stress and confusion, particularly around learning and developing my own identity. This experience has sparked my passion in working with the younger, newcomer population in Ontario.
It is a privilege and honor for me to connect with you. I look forward to supporting your journey in processing your experience and together we learn new ways of being.
As a Registered Social Worker (RSW) who studied Mental Health and Health in their Master’s degree, along with an extensive engagement in the community, I specialize working with older adolescents, post-secondary students and young adults (i.e. Individuals who are 16 and older) in the Chinese, Mandarin-Speaking community in Ontario.
I work with individuals on a variety of topics, such as: academic/work related stress, regulating emotions, processing thoughts, procrastination and motivation, social relationships, self-identity, as well as experiences of discrimination and oppression. More importantly, I see counselling as a way for people to understand themselves better and discover new ways to engage in their lives more fulfillingly and meaningfully. I value allyship in a collaborative environment as I believe the importance of meeting where people are at, so we will develop plans together and re-visiting progress as needed.
Therapeutic Modality
I adopt a strength-based, trauma-informed approach that is diversity-sensitive and attuned to the needs and intersectionality issues of different individuals. Depending on my clients’ needs, my practice involves:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Emotion Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
- Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT)
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
The fundamental philosophy that guides my work involves bringing out the potential and strengths of people, by fully processing where they are at the moment, looking at what they can act on, as well as what they can achieve in the present moment.
